THE sculpted torso of singer-songwriter Josh Jones is testament to the hours he spends in the gym.

But it’s not vanity that drives the 20-year-old – it’s the knowledge that exercise is the best way to keep his CF in check.

He has scaled Kilimanjaro and released a single inspired by the trek.

Six will head for the snows of Kilimanjaro

SIX East Kilbride men are set to climb to the roof of Africa in the name of charity.

The six, who are all members of a local walking club, are setting off next month to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, which stands at an impressive and daunting 19,340 feet high.

Their goal is to raise as much as possible for two charities.

Mountain climb for charity

AN IT manager from Lostock is embarking on an adventure of a lifetime in aid of charity.

Gareth Price, of Milverton Close, is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for children’s charity, the NSPCC.

He will be joined on the 5,895-metre, or 19,340-foot, climb up the world’s tallest free-standing mountain by friend Bill Wright, from Falkirk in Scotland.

They will start the trek in Tanzania on February 17 and expect it to take six days - five to reach the summit, and one to get back down. Continue Reading…

Climber inspired by wife’s bravery

A BLANDFORD man who lost his wife to cancer last year is aiming to tackle Mount Kilimanjaro to raise thousands of pounds for research into the disease.

Andy Simpson’s wife Petra, 44, died in July 2007 after battling lung cancer and secondary bone cancer.

IT instructor Andy, 37, is due to set off on the eight-day trip to ascend the 19,000ft summit in July.

Beacher climbs Kilimanjaro to raise funds and awareness about colorectal cancer


Climbing Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro was the biggest challenge 54-year-old Beach resident John Helfrich has ever faced.”I was actually pretty convinced that I wouldn’t do it. It was the worst possible weather you could have encountered for the season,” said Helfrich, who reached the summit of Africa’s highest peak on Jan. 18.

Kevin takes on Africa’s highest peak

PROJECT manager Kevin Morgan will be swapping the office for the great outdoors to tackle one of the world’s greatest summits.

Kevin, aged 48, from Alsager, has set himself the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

The mountain stands at 5,895 metres, and is the highest in Africa.
