PROJECT manager Kevin Morgan will be swapping the office for the great outdoors to tackle one of the world’s greatest summits.

Kevin, aged 48, from Alsager, has set himself the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

The mountain stands at 5,895 metres, and is the highest in Africa.

Kevin will be attempting the challenge towards the end of February in aid of the Donna Louise Trust.

The trust provides a children’s hospice service for Staffordshire and South Cheshire, providing respite and end of life care.

The trek will take seven days, five to reach the summit and two to walk back down.

“The height of Kilimanjaro is regarded as extreme altitude,” said Kevin, who works for Barclays Bank at Radbroke Hall.

“To help acclimatise myself I have dusted off my old platform shoes, and can be seen tottering round the office.

“The trek will present a real challenge, as only four out of 10 people get to the summit due to the effects of altitude sickness.”

Kevin also faces other dangers en route to the summit including dangerous wild animals.

“We also have to contend with bandits, so will be accompanied for the part of the trek by an armed guard,” he said.

Kevin has raised £455 towards his target of £750, and people can donate at www.justgiving.com/kevinmorgan.

Donating in this way allows the Donna Louise Trust to claim 28p in the pound for UK taxpayers.

Kevin has also obtained matched funding from Barclays to help boost the amount raised.
